(Vietnamese) (Spanish) (Chinese) We are a team--the student, the teacher, and the parent. Together we can achieve success in improving your English skills. As a teacher, I will do my best to make you, the student, a successful English learner and to make learning as easy and fun as possible. In return, you are expected to come to class everyday on time, pay attention from bell to bell and do your classwork and homework to the best of your ability. Dear Student, It is very important for you to work very hard to improve your English skills (in listening, speaking, reading, writing, grammar, and vocab.) because: 1. You have to pass the exit exam to obtain a high school diploma. 2. Good jobs require a diploma and excellent English skills. 3. Good English skills help you get better scores on the Star test and get you ready to exit into a mainstream college prep English class. Dear Parent, Please show your support by getting your child to class everyday on time and encouraging her/him to do their best. Please feel free to contact me if you have questions about your child's progress. email: sigrid.nikolei@ousd.k12.ca.us phone: 879-3060 ext 232 (after per. 4) Text Each student is assigned a High Point text and workbook which they need to bring to class everyday. We will also be reading an outside reading book (SSR book). Homework There is always some type of homework. Sometimes it is to study for a test, practice vocab or reading. Most of the time there is some written homework. It is especially important to work on writing, editing, and revising assigned essays. All completed homework counts toward your overall grade. Grading All tests, homework, classwork, projects, writing assignments are given points. The points are weighted in the following manner. tests 25% essays/projects 20% classwork 15% bell work 10% notebook 15% homework 15% Behavior All students are expected to be considerate and respectful of everyone else in the classroom and to be part of a classroom environment that is best for teaching and learning. For further details see the Classroom Management Plan under "Policies". It is also available in Spanish, Chinese, and Vietnamese upon request.
