Skyline High School Jazz Band Class Information
Jazz Band is for advanced instrumental musicians, enrollment by audition. Music includes early jazz, swing, Latin, contemporary jazz, rock and funk. Students study improvisation, jazz history and theory. Selected members of the Jazz Band form the Skyline Jazz Combo. Both perform frequently in the community and at regional festivals. The Jazz Band went to the Reno Jazz Festival in 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007. Skyline took 2nd place at Reno in the A division in 2007, 5th place in A Combo division in 2006 and Best Student Big Band composition in 2005 (Sam's Samba, by Sam Schwartz). In the 2007-2008 school year we will offer a second level of Jazz Band for students who are developing their jazz skills.
